The courtyard of elements

Kunsthofpassage

In the Dresdener Neustadt you can find a curious set of courtyards that are part of the Kunsthofpassage. Every courtyard is decorated differently. There’s one decorated with golden waves (which I thought looked like post it notes) and one with animals from the jungle (monkeys playing and a giraffe eating the plaster on the building). But the most spectacular one is the courtyard of elements. All over the houses are drain pipes. That itself isn’t so spectacular. But when it rains, the drain pipes make music, created by raindrops falling through the rainpipes. That is something you don’t see every day…

The courtyards are home to a number of small shops and cafes, and it’s fun to walk around for a bit. The rest of the Neustadt area is also very nice, with many alternative shops, lots of street art and all kinds of cafes, bars and restaurants.

  1. I like a lot the atmosphere of the picture, and regarding the courtyard, it seems a fantastic idea although I don’t know if it rains a lot in Dresden as to be worried for “excessive” watermusic!!
